Help build the open camera direction database. Two photos, two minutes.

How it works

  1. Take two photos of the same stationary subject without moving your feet.
    • First photo: hold your phone in portrait (vertical)
    • Second photo: rotate your phone counter-clockwise to landscape (horizontal)
  2. Select both photos below. They stay on your device — we only read the metadata.
  3. Review and submit. Only numeric compass data and your device model are sent.

Android tip: Photos must be saved to your device before selecting them. If the file picker opens Google Photos, tap the ≡ menu and choose Files or Downloads to browse locally saved photos.

We extract GPS coordinates and compass direction from your photos to assess the camera's behavior. Only the compass direction values, your device model, and camera app name are sent to our server. The camera app name may help identify different offset behaviors on the same hardware in the future. Your location and photos never leave your browser.
